IT’S FINALLY HERE: The Big Give. Empower Health Students to Reach Their Full Potential Now

This #GivingTuesday, donate to this ONE WEEK campaign and your contribution will be doubled—yes, DOUBLED!

The Big Give Christmas Campaign is finally here. It is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign where from 1 to 8 of December 2020, donations to Medic to Medic are matched using funds pledged over the summer by supporters and Big Give partners. Yes. That means a single donation will raise double the money to support hard-working healthcare students in Malawi, Uganda and Zambia.

But time is ticking. The campaign only runs from 12 noon 1 December to 12 noon 8 December.

When a student gets an education, you would have broken a very big poverty chain in their clan… you would have helped thousands of patients who would have died due to lack of trained personnel”

Deputy Head of Nursing, Mzuzu University, Malawi

Malawi, Uganda and Zambia have some of the lowest numbers of health workers in the world. If this pandemic has taught us anything, it’s how important a strong health system is—a system not only with adequate material supplies like equipment, drugs and facilities, but crucially also with adequate numbers of health workers to deliver care—as material items can do little good without trained human beings to wield them.

Healthcare students from poor backgrounds struggle with university costs. They are often forced to spend precious time and energy constantly trying to find funding—time and energy that should be spent focusing on their studies. Students from these backgrounds are more likely to drop out of their training due to poverty, yet they are the ones more likely to stay and work in their home countries once qualified.

Through your DOUBLED contribution, you can address these shortages. Help us support more students through their training so that more of the world’s poorest people have access to healthcare.

Since 2007, Medic to Medic have helped over 130 health workers qualify.

Medic to Medic supports students at risk of dropping out. We ensure each individual has everything they need to successfully qualify to contribute to health services in their country.

We do this by covering tuition fees, allowances and study equipment. We guarantee payment of tuition fees until graduation, provide twice yearly allowances, medical equipment, books and a laptop so they have everything they need to reach their full potential and successfully qualify as a health worker. The alumni provide mentorship support to students ensuring scholarships are holistic.

I appreciate Medic to Medic for being on my side at moments of my greatest need […] I take this opportunity to thank my sponsors for their usual and continual support, they are part of my greatest story to be told.”
